DAY #4: PET-PEEVES

Hi Friends,

With this face, Roy mahal, kabahan ka na. :p

Today’s blog entry is about pet-peeves. Have you heard of this word before? Well, pet-peeve is something that uniquely annoys you. There are common annoyances like a choppy line or a snail-slow internet connection but a pet-peeve is an irritation that others can just simply ignore and be totally unaffected while you on the other hand can’t just endure or even stand the thought of.

Can you relate?

For those curious, I will be sharing mine.

Cigarette smoke – an absolute turnoff! For some reason, I can smell it from afar. I can detect if the person next to me has been smoking by the air that surrounds him – the stink of his breath and clothes. Or the discoloration and dryness in his lips, the yellowish front teeth and the hoarse voice. For a person (more…)

DAY #5: OUR LOVE AFFAIR WITH FOOD

Hi Friends,

Do not let my petite frame fool you.

Buffet tables are my kind of happy place. (Spell “rice”)

Oh no! :p

Okay, so let’s talk about food for a second.

Food can be our sweetest friend or our bitter enemy. Our biggest pleasure or our greatest struggle. Or both. For many of us, we have different views on food, our next meal, the dessert teasing in front of us. Each gastronomic experience can either end in a satisfied burp or to the toilet for the girl plagued with bulimia. No matter our foodie circumstance is, it is undeniable that there are certain dishes that will always elicit a resounding YES, a stamp of approval, sometimes, no matter how full we already are.

So today, I will be sharing with you the food that I couldn’t resist; I never for a single moment thought of denying myself from esp when offered.

Here they are…

1.. Lanzones (“langsat” in Thai) – Irresistible. I’m drooling already. I can eat a pail-full til I’m ‘impacho’ levels. I’m not kidding, okay? I can never overeat lanzones. There used to be displays in Carrefour a few weeks back but they have detected my cravings and decided to be out-of-stock each time we visit (which is like 2-3x a week). Please Carrefour, restock now okay!

2. Sinabawang clams – Best when fresh and cooked by Kuya Roger, my brother-in-law. When their housemate Parikoy set out early to the beach and came back later with a net bag full of fresh (more…)

DAY #2: THE GOOD, THE BAD & THE UGLY

under construction

.

Hi Friends,

Here’s some little note: Today’s challenge is daunting…

I once read a quote that says something along the lines that people are like moons – we only want to show our bright side but not the dark one. There is some truth to that statement. It’s human nature. We avoid putting our hearts on our sleeves and publicize our weaknesses for all the whole (online) world to see… and you know… judge.

On second thought, I realized that I could use this challenge for some measure of much-needed (more…)

DAY #1: WHAT, WHY & WHERE I WRITE

18835934_10209330461995088_1634109321912229705_n

We write to taste life twice, in the moment and in retrospect.”  – Anais Nin

.

WHAT

My husband used to tell me that I should have at least one unifying theme in this blog – say, food, books, finance or travel. Fashion is out of my league so not this one either. I told him that I can’t seem to stick to a single topic or theme. I guess he just learned to live with it. Sorry dear husband…

I started blogging in 2012 because I was trying to win Jayesslee concert tickets in Manila and a blog entry was a requirement. As it turns out, my blog has now become a medley of ideas that INSPIRE me or information that may HELP another person or just an event close to my heart that I want to RELIVE in my writing.

So yeah, that is essentially what I write in this pie of internet space.

.

WHY

Why do I put thoughts on paper?

Now, that is a more pressing question…

I believe that PURPOSE precedes CONTENT. Purpose dictates the (more…)

30-DAY BLOG CHALLENGE

Hello Friends!

It’s been quite a while since I last posted an entry here.  A lot has happened since then. Some of those happenings, I reckon, will do a lot good if they stay in my journals.

There are many things though that I wish to document online and share with you – and that I will do very soon but I also know that my writing has become rusty and I need some literary warm-up.

So I recently “enrolled” myself to a 30-day blogging challenge to hopefully flex my rather stiff writing muscles. In so doing, I would be forcing myself to write 30 entries in 30 days.

And today is Day #1.

Will you join me in this journey?

Let’s go!

P.S.

There are a variety of choices of that so-called “30-day blogging challenge” and I chose this one below after a quick scan. I notice that the entries in these sort of challenges will be pretty much about one’s self because the objective is to get someone to write. And one thing all of us have a fair knowledge of is ourselves so no one has an excuse to say “I don’t really know what to write”. Because frankly, you do. #notetoself

humility

THAT STRANGE THING CALLED HUMILITY

Humility — a strange thing. The minute you think you’ve got it — you’ve lost it.”

.

One of the greatest Christian thinkers of all time, C.S. Lewis, wisely wrote in his book Mere Christianity (1952):

Do not imagine that if you meet a really humble man he will be what most people call ‘humble’ nowadays: he will not be a sort of *greasy, **smarmy person, who is always telling you that, of course, he is nobody. He will not be thinking about humility: he will not be thinking about himself at all.”

*greasy – insincerely polite
**smarmy – insincerely flattering or ingratiating (intended to gain approval or favour)

.

What is humility? The best way to define this word is to point its opposite: Pride.
